John Viteritti, a local retired professor with experience teaching at LIU Southampton College and New York University, will lead a monthly seminar on American History. July's seminar will explore the evolution of American war powers and military engagement from World War II to the present. Topics include Article II of the Constitution, the War Powers Resolution of 1973, and the concept of the "Gloss of History" as examined by scholar Mary L. Dudziak. The seminar will also reflect on U.S. involvement in major conflicts and proxy wars, highlighting the human cost of war with over 100,000 American military deaths since WWII.
