COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a group of lung diseases that block airflow and make it difficult to breathe. COPD is a progressive disease that affects more than 15 million adults in the U.S., more than half of which are women. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the most common conditions. Dr. Kashif Hussain, board-certified in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine, and on staff at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, will discuss the causes and risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as strategies for living successfully with COPD.
