The Vienna State Opera production of Massenet's Werther features a critically acclaimed performance starring tenor Marco Alvarez as Werther and mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca as Charlotte. Directed by Andrei Serban and conducted by Philippe Jordan, this 1950s-set production is noted for its intense acting, lush musicality, and a unique, minimalist, and psychologically charged staging.
