From the Director’s Desk

Dear Mattituck-Laurel Community,

As we head into the warmer months, your Community Library is full of opportunities to connect, explore, and engage. From summer traditions to community programs and future planning, there’s something for everyone.

Summer Reading for children, teens, and adults begins June 29. Whether you’re picking up a beach read or trying something new, we hope you’ll join us. Download the ReadSquared app to participate in the children’s program, and sign up through our online calendar for the adult and teen programs.

The Summer Tour returns June 1 through August 31. Starting June 1, pick up your booklet at the Circulation Desk, search the Library for our hidden creature card, and collect your sticker and stamp. It’s a fun way for all ages to experience the Library and explore libraries across our county.

Don’t forget about our Bike Borrow Program. Designed to be equitable and sustainable, adult library cardholders can check out a bike for up to two weeks, free of charge. Whether for transportation, recreation, or errands, this program encourages cycling for both health and convenience.

We also invite you to take part in the renewed discussion of a library renovation project on Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. Your input will help shape the next phase of planning as we address essential building needs.

Please consider supporting our upcoming Blood Drive on Thursday, May 7th from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. One pint can save three lives. Give blood, give life. Appointments are strongly preferred.

As part of our America 250 programming, we continue our Founding Fathers lecture series with Charlie Gueli of the Mattituck Historical Society on Saturday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. Then join us for Tavern Tea with Margaret Johnson on Friday, May 15 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

If you’re looking to get outdoors, we’ve got two guided tours lined up in June. Join us on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Landcraft Garden Foundation, and on Tuesday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the North Fork Flower Farm.

Thank you for being a part of your Community Library. Your participation and feedback shape the work we do.

Can’t wait to see you at the Library!

Warmly,

Shauna Scholl, Director
